December Favorites

Writer's picture: Gillian BrooksGillian Brooks

With 2019 coming to an end, it was important to finish the year off with an exciting month, and thats exactly what I did and today we talk favorites.

Beauty

Over Thanksgiving break, my skin decided to have a complete mental breakdown. My face was so dry, flaky, red, breakouts and blemishes. My skincare routine used to consist of genetic brand face wash and moisturizer and spot treatment for breakouts. It was time for a

change. At Thanksgiving dinner my cousins Katie and Maddie suggested I checked out TJ Maxx's beauty department for a face oil to help out with some of my dryness. Since then, their beauty section has become my favorite place to shop. I picked up a face oil, moisturizing mist, a charcoal facemask and an acne treatment mask. I started seeing results not even a week later. For Christmas my mom got me a 3 step system from Clinique and a brush to wash my face with. So within a month, my night time face routine has gotten significantly longer and the results have been great. I plan on writing a full post soon on my full skin care routine!

Television and Movies

I have been saying for YEARS that I would watch the Star Wars movies. There are so many people in my life who are big fans and with Disney doing so much with the franchise recently, I knew it was time. I made it a goal of mine to watch them on 2019 but I never got around to it or was motivated enough. Ashley convinced me with 8 days left in the year and 8 movies, Christmas eve was the time to start, and I did. I did not think I would enjoy them, well I proved myself wrong. My favorite episodes were Empire Strikes Back, Revenge of the Sith and The Force Awakens! Now I just have to go see The Rise of Skywalker...

Music

  • 'Tis the season to be jolly! My music taste this month consisted mostly of Christmas music, here's my favorite songs to put me in the spirit.

  1. Santa Tell Me: Ariana Grande

  2. All I Want For Christmas is You: Mariah Carey

  3. Do They Know It's Christmas? - 2014: Band Aid 30

  4. Heat Miser/ Snow Miser: Done Again

  5. The 12 Days of Christmas: Straight No Chaser

Journalism

And just like that, my time with WVU News has come to an end! My last day at the anchor

desk was my most favorite of the semester. The whole day was filled with so

many laughs as we danced, threw and caught the woah and just enjoyed being together one last time as a class. I wrote a whole post about my time with WVU News, you can check it out here! Im taking some exciting journalism classes next semester that I cant wait to get into!

Events

  • December is always a fun month with the holidays and the end of the semester. Fall formal was the best way to celebrate the end of the semester with some really great pals. I always love seeing everyone all dressed up and dancing the night away!

  • I spent a week of doing nothing in Morgantown while waiting for my last final. Having a final the last day of the week is kind of miserable but my roommate Kayla and I made the best of it. We spent the week watching movies, goofing off and just spending quality time with each other.

  • I really love celebrating the holidays. The whole month is spent valuing those who are most important to you. Christmas eve and Christmas day was spent surrounded by family with the constant reminder of how lucky and blessed I am to have the most amazing people in my life. Gathering around a table full of good food and good company is all I could ever ask for. During the holiday break I spent some much needed time sleeping, catching up with friends from back home, watching movies and reading!
