November Favorites

Writer's picture: Gillian BrooksGillian Brooks

Any staple to any blog is monthly favorites. I know I know, it's kind of cliché but I think it'll be fun to recap the month. So without further ado here are some of my favorites for November.

Beauty

I am a nails girl but I have the worst habit of peeling off my nail polish. I have only

gotten my nails done at a salon a handful of times but I love how they look when I do. The imPRESS gel press on nails always make my nails look polished and clean. Plus they cost me under $10 and you can pick them up in any drug store. I always get so many compliments when I wear them (as pictured here) and they last anywhere from a week to 2 weeks!

Television and Movies

One word: Disney. Disney released its long awaited streaming service Disney+ this month. As a die hard Disney fanatic, this was like Christmas morning for me. Anything you can think of, it is on there. Sitting down to watch Hannah Montana and the Suite Life with my roommates brought me straight back to my childhood. However, the originals are just what

you would expect from Disney: amazing. As a major Disney fan, I love learning about the companies history, especially the parks. "The Imagineering Story" is a docuseries about how

the parks have come together, I get so immersed into each episode and they tell such a great story. Originally I wouldn't give "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" the time of day but after my friend Ashley told me it was good, I decided to give it a watch. It's like "High School Musical" and "The Office" have a baby. I know HSM is ver sacred to us young adults but I promise you, its good. Its peak comedy and has a really good storyline. Finally, Disney did it again with the cinematic master piece: "Frozen 2." I laughed, I cried, I smiled, I sang, it was just so good all the way around. I would even go as far to say it was better than the first. It is a must see for everyone!

Music

While I usually wait until after Thanksgiving to listen to Christmas music, this year I was jamming out to the holiday sounds much earlier than normal.

Some of my other favorites this month include:

Food

My absolute favorite dinner I made this month was a pinterest recipe I found: Garlic Butter Chicken and Potatoes. It was delicious! My tips for if you decide to make it: cut back on the hot sauce in the marinade. I love spicy foods but this can be REALLY spicy. Also I cooked the potatoes in the skillet a few minutes longer than it said to make sure they were really crispy! Keep an eye on them and when theyre nice and golden pull them out! Serve with a veggie and some bread and its a tasty and easy dinner!

Journalism

With Thanksgiving break landing at the end of the month, I only worked on one news story I focused on dental in the state of West Virginia and it turned out really well! The head of the dental school's public relations was so helpful to me and made the process of putting the story together extremely easy and enjoyable!

Events

This month was full of several fun outings, let me tell you, it was an action packed month.

I experienced my last football game as a WVU Student! It was bitter sweet but its been

a blast rooting on the Mountaineers the past few years.

I could go on and on about our sorority retreat for days, but instead you can just read my last blog post thats all about it!

Friendsgiving is just as important as Thanksgiving with your family. My roommates and a few friends got together to enjoy a classic Thanksgiving meal but with chicken rather than turkey. And I made some AMAZING mashed potatoes. While the holiday revolves around what you're thankful for, its important to tell your friends how thankful you are for them as well.

Thanksgiving break was the break I needed. I caught up with friends and family over food, shopping and great nights in. Surrounding myself with great company is so important to me and I have some of the best pals in Pittsburgh. While I still have 3 weeks of school until this semester is over, break was the relaxation I needed to push to the end.
